I am not a very good coder

An ex-colleague of mine recently introduced me as "a very good coder" to someone else. We've worked together for a long time at this point and it's always nice to hear when your peers appreciate the work you do.

I have, however, always maintained that I am not a very good coder.

I've been very fortunate to be part of teams where I've seen and worked with people who are very good coders and I don't think I've ever been at a level where I can write code as good as they do.

To be perfectly honest, I am not even sure if I enjoy thinking about code as deeply and I always admired people who can write incredibly well thought out code.

The only value I'd like to think I bring to a team is that I enjoy obsessing over problems and trying to find solutions for them. I love it even more when the solution is not straightforward.

I don't take it for granted that I've managed to make a hobby of mine my way of earning a livelihood.
